Calistoga Weekend Part 2
After Taittinger, we stopped at Merryvale, one of the few wineries open after 5:00 PM, for a tasting of red wine. They put a couple whites in my sampling since I'm a light-weight wine drinker.

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at a small restaurant called Wappo Bar Bistro in Calistoga. They have a very diverse menu, covering many different types of cuisine. I had a wonderful curry dish with vegetables and prawns. Then the girls sang Happy Birthday to me and we shared a yummy berry cobbler a la mode.
The cottage at the Bear Flag Inn where we stayed. I would recommend this B&B to anyone visiting the wine country. The owners are a very friendly couple with two cute golden labs. They are happy to share stories with you over appetizers and wine in the early evening, and then make you an amazing breakfast of waffles or eggs benedict in the morning.

The Bear Flag Inn was originally a farm house. Now it has several rooms, a cottage, a pool and spa for out-of-town visitors.

After a delicious breakfast, we took "Flat Stanley" to the Old Faithful geyser. The owners of the B&B were collecting historical information and points of interest on the Calistoga/Napa area for grade schoolers in Tuscan, Arizona. They asked us to help them out by bringing their friend out for a little excursion.
Feeding the "Fainting Goats" at the Old Faithful site. Supposedly they were used in the late 1800s on ranches to protect the sheep. When predators were near, the goats would faint so the sheep had time to get away. Talk about scapegoats!
Old Faithful erupts water about 50 feet into the air every 45 minutes.
On the second day of our girls weekend we went to the spas in Calistoga. I got "the works" at Dr. Wilkinson's, one of the original hot springs spas in the area. The works includes a mud bath, lavendar mineral bath, steam room and one hour massage. It was a much needed pampering session! I returned to San Francisco feeling extremely relaxed and very blessed to have such wonderful girlfriends! Nothing rejuvenates the soul like a weekend of good conversation, food, wine and relaxation with the three kindred spirits!
