Back to Pittsburgh...
It is back to the land of Steel for me as I finish off my collaboration with a major laboratory. I was able to stay a Saturday and hang out with my good buddy, Mikey. So where to? I heard that Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater was on the way to Ohiopyle so let's go!
This is the house named Fallingwater. It belonged to the Kaufmanns whose last heir, Edgar, left to the preservation society in 1993 I think. He had no heirs.It is cantilevered over a waterfall which adds to its drama. Built in the 1930s, it is a septanegarian showing amazing design staying power that looks fresh even today. The builders thought that Frank was crazy with his design but he was quite ahead of his time. We could not take pictures inside but it was amazing with the low ceilings and horizontal lines that "moved" your focus to the views outside--quintessential integration of nature and architecture. You could not build this house nowadays unless you can get pass all the numerous building code violations! We loved it.

After Fallingwater, we sped down to the Ohiopyle State park where we were last month. Mikey was changing into some shorts in the car ;)
The park was definitely a lot lusher and greener this time around with tons of bathers on the river.
Cure for the hot and humid weather? Hershey's ice cream!We trekked a little bit up the stream to feast on our cold concoctions and got into the car to check out the Cascade Falls.

We trekked up river to the Cascades. I love this shot of Mikey as it makes you wonder how he made it there amidst all the water?!
We were expecting the river to be packed with bathers and hikers but it was empty. Wow, it was such an amazing blessing to have all of this grandeur just for us....
...so let's bust out with the bubbly! Well, not the alcoholic kind. We bought some bubbles from the market as I thought it would make cool pics.
Ah, it felt magical. We were the only ones around to enjoy the Falls--blowing bubbles to the wind as carefree and innocent as we allowed ourselves to be. The moments we spent together were just as ethereal--ephemerally dissolving downstream into beautiful memories.Thanks Mikey. Until next time....
